Soering's Attorney Discusses New Witness

(by Noreen Turyn, WSET-TV, Lynchburg, March 25, 2011, Link)

Buckingham Co., VA - Jens Soering says he's not asking for anyone to prove him innocent, he just wants to be paroled.

But he says the deposition from the new witness, Tony Buchanan supports his claim that Elizabeth Haysom and an unknown accomplice committed the murders.

Soering's attorney, Gail Ball, says Buchanan is credible, a decorated war veteran, and his information should help the Governor make an informed decision. "We did not seek, we did not go out of our way. It came to us. And this man has no ax to grind. He has no, there is no advantage to him, to put himself forward. Because let's face it, he has put himself in a hard position of being scrutinized."

Soering says he would love it if the governor would launch an investigation to find this new witness, but he doesn't think it should involve Bedford County Major Ricky Gardner, who was an investigator on the case.

"Mr. Gardner is not a neutral party in this. He's trying to preserve his reputation, his career, his life's work. I want this person found, okay, we know he exists, from the fingerprint, the DNA and the witness, but it has to be someone independent looking at this."

Soering is referring to an unidentified fingerprint found on a glass at the scene, and recent DNA results that don't specifically link Soering to the case.
